The Transformation
To Parenthood
The postnatal period is a profoundly transformative time, as new mothers navigate their recovery from childbirth while caring for their baby. It is a critical and vulnerable phase for a woman’s physical and mental health, requiring dedicated rest and support to heal and prevent long-term complications. During this time, the essential bond between mother and child is strengthened, which is foundational for the baby’s development.
World Health Organization (WHO) states that approximately 10% of pregnant women and 13% of women who have just given birth experience a mental disorder, primarily depression. In developing countries, these figures are even higher. A mother’s ill mental health may negatively impact the infant’s growth and development as a consequence.

Mental health
This period involves significant psychological adjustment, with research highlighting a high risk for postpartum mood disorders like depression and anxiety. Providing adequate support is essential, as a mother's mental well-being directly impacts her ability to bond with and care for her baby.

Postpartum Recovery Around the World
Many cultures observe postpartum practices, providing new mothers with mandated rest and dedicated care to aid their recovery. Scientific evidence suggests these traditions can lead to better physical healing and reduced rates of postpartum depression by ensuring a supportive environment during this critical time.

Research and Evidence
Drawing on global research and evidence shows that observing traditional postnatal practices can lead to significant positive outcomes. We also understand that some of these traditions, like certain dietary restrictions or limited physical activity, might not always align with a modern lifestyle. We are here to help you navigate these practices and find what works best for you and your family.
Recommendations for Postpartum Care
Global health organizations and research-based recommendations highlight the importance of both clinical and non-clinical care.
Clinical Care
The first few months after your baby arrives are also a special time for you. We know that taking care of your physical and emotional health during this period is incredibly important.
That’s why our care plans are designed to support your full recovery. While standard postpartum checks in Australia are often at six weeks, we follow the latest ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) guidelines that recommend ongoing care within the first three weeks postpartum, then ongoing care as required, followed up with an individualised visit no later than 12 weeks after birth*. This ensures we can support your complete recovery, check in on your mental health, and discuss your needs in a way that truly looks after you.
Holistic Care
Growing evidence shows that holistic care, especially a strong social support network, is incredibly important. However, global research suggests the levels of informal support available are still inadequate^.
Social support can come from so many places: your partner, family, or a dedicated support network that offers both practical help with your baby and meals, as well as emotional encouragement. We believe the best care is a blend of expert clinical guidance and the nurturing social support you need to thrive.
